DEFCON 16 - CTF FINALS
DEFCON 16 CTF Finals took place from August 8 to August 10, 2008 @ the Riviera Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, NV.
Università degli Studi di Milano participated in the contest with the team "Guard@MyLAN0" (aka "Chocolate Makers"). Our team ended up in the fifth place, and we believe this is a good result, considering that this was our first time at Defcon CTF. The change of time zone and the distance from home were playing against us: we spent the first day of the contest completely jet-lagged and we were kept busy by the attempt to tune at our best the two antiques (our router/firewall and the host for the vulnerable image, mended with sticky tape) that we could afford to take with us in this travel.
The vulnerable image was a FreeBSD system. The great majority of the vulnerable services was binary, with only a couple of exceptions.
Congratulations to sk3wl0fr00t that thanks to their great "reverse engineering fu" won the CTF finals, widely overtaking other teams.
We would like to express a grateful thank to the Kenshoto team, that organized both the qualification challenge and the CTF Finals, for the great game and for their kind helpfulness before and during the contest (and also for the booze during the night briefing ;-)).
Here is a quick overview of our team:
